BDSM 101

My roommate and I have decided to host an event called BDSM 101. This event was hosted at my apartment and was an invitation-only event. However, several invitations were sent out to many of our own personal friends, but only a few were able to attend. The purpose of this event was to let our less experienced friends become educated in the world of kink. To break the stereotypes that BDSM and kink are not socially acceptable topics. To talk about our own personal fantasies, learn about how to play with a consenting partner safely, and even conduct a rope/bondage workshop.

So, when the day came, I had my friend Sweets (my former rigger) go through a series of topics to help break the ice. I chose Sweets because he was already well integrated into the BDSM community and had much more knowledge of the following topics than myself.

  1. Open communication & acceptance
  2. How to clean sex toys
  3. The difference between kinky and BDSM
  4. Making a Yes-No-Maybe list
  5. Play Aftercare
  6. Rope class

We chose these topics because they were not too personal in the event someone was not comfortable sharing, and because they provided some guidance in the event someone chose to purse a BDSM relationship and how to do so safely.

As it turned out, the Yes-No-Maybe list got the most feedback from my guest. After sharing my own personal list, everyone quickly began to realize the spectrum that BDSM sits on. “Just because it may not be appealing to yourself doesn’t mean you should be scared off. BDSM is a spectrum of non-sexual and sexual power exchanges and can be catered to your own personal needs and desires.”

This event actually put me on my own personal journey to re-integrate myself into BDSM. To search for a Dom or a Mentor to help try to learn more about my own desires. FetLife has proven good to me so far. I plan on attending munches and my own rope class before I go back to school.

Wish me luck 🙂
